Jewellery Photography

A jewellery photographer’s job is by far the most difficult in product photography.

Lighting alone is radically different to any other photographic discipline.

Jewellery photography is challenging. Jewellery is shiny by nature. Looking closer – from an scientific point of view – it is actually highly reflective. That means your piece of jewellery will reflect all of its surroundings including whatever light sources are shining on it. This lighting challenge requires a very specific skill set employing ‘gradient’ lighting, sparkle lighting, and more. The camera work too is difficult! Very often a piece will be photographed in extreme close-up or ‘macro’. Studs and rings for example can photograph blurry or with very little focus. My technique guarantees a tack-sharp photo from front to back…
